MONOVAR Control Valve

General description

  • Type : Multi-port sliding plates with a fixed and a moving plate

  • Anti-cavitation control valve

  • End connection:

    • Wafer or flanged

  • Size: DN 100 mm (4”) to 2000 mm (80”)

  • Working pressure: PN10 to PN100

  • Temperature: -15°C to +120 °C

Working principle and benefits

Design feature: Working principle

  • Pipe flange

  • Body

  • Fixed plate

    • With 57 tapped holes

  • Moving plate

    • Identical to fixed

    • Can “slide” radically on the fixed plate

  • BENEFITS

    • Water flow is split into 57 jets of water which avoids cavitation and noise when operating.

    • Able to dissipate very high water heads (up to 500 mWH)

    • Allows very quick flow recovery (1.5 DN)

    • Allows very accurate flow or pressure control (1%)

    • Very compact design (Face to face dimensions less than 160 mm)

    • Can be installed in-line or as a free discharge valve

Cavitation creation and comparison

Cavitation comparison:

  • When submitted to high differential pressure, butterfly valves will cavitate and create noise, vibrations and corrosion

  • MONOVAR does not cavitate and allow flow recovery in less than 1.5 DN

Space advantage

Design feature: Space advantage

  • Monovar DN 1050

    • Face to face: 160 mm

  • Perforated globe valve DN 1050

    • Face to face: 2300 mm

  • Sleeve valve or Cone valve DN1050

    • Face to face: 3800 mm

Application

  • Flow or pressure control at water treatment plant inlets (or outlets)

  • Flow control in large size pumping station (when constant speed pumps are used)

  • Energy dissipation applications

  • Turbine by-pass valve in hydro-electric installations (Dams)

  • Free discharge valve

  • Fresh or sea water cooling systems.
